VAAs (voting aid applications) are a powerful digital instrument to inform voters of the positions of the political party and their own position. It has a proven positive effect on voters’ knowledge and voting motivation. In many democracies it has become part of the tools for voters to prepare for elections.
But in many countries, there is either no VAA at all, or no VAA that meets the standards of quality and long-term sustainability. The problem is that this is a market with limited funding and no possibility to find funding for one or more projects.
Some partners have tried launching one-off projects and succeeded in delivering a single VAA. Others have attempted commercial ventures in these regions. Yet none have achieved the combination of quality and durability that is needed to truly support democratic processes in these countries.
